Enrichment is the key to your cat's happiness, so how can you guarantee you're giving them the best?
Our certified cat trainer, Tori, recommends having at least three enrichment sessions a day. Don't panic if that feels like a lot! She suggests three separate enrichment sessions alternating between a 15-minute play session, a 15-minute training session, and setting out puzzle feeders. That's just 30 minutes of one-on-one enrichment (plus the 5 minutes it takes to put out puzzle toys) per kitty during your busy day.
If you work a regular schedule, Tori recommends having a play session before leaving for work, setting out puzzle feeders before you walk out the door, and having your training session when you come home. Adjust the variety and timing to whatever works best for you.
If your schedule varies daily, Tori still suggests following a routine around when you leave and come home.
No matter your work schedule, always remember that it's okay to come home from a long day and not have the energy for a full play or training session. A good 5 minutes is always better than no minutes. You're still a great cat parent, even when you're a tired cat parent.
If you still struggle to provide your cat's necessary enrichment, consider hiring a cat-sitter for your workdays, even just once or twice a week, to help you and your kitty family members.
Enriched cats are the happiest cats, and happy cats make happy humans.
